Photography Session Commonly Asked Questions

Q: I really want to have a family portrait but I hate the way I look in pictures.   Do other people feel this way?

A: Most definitely, I hear that all the time in my pre-session consults.   The most important aspect of a great portrait in my opinion is gently guiding the subjects to look their best - yet relaxed and natural.  This placement is not done by accident; it is a learned skill that I don’t take lightly.  I also like to artistically paint over the images to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and blemishes.   I will treat you the way I want to be treated!

Q: What do we wear for our portrait?

A: This is something that is determined by the feel that you want to create by your image.  Colors will make or break a portrait so we don’t leave it to chance.  We discuss these important details in your pre-session consult.

Q: Do you do framing?

A: Yes, we have a beautiful selection of custom frames and we’re getting in new ones all the time.  Some of our most popularly requested collections even include a frame for your wall portrait.   We are also happy to frame any prints or artwork that you have purchased elsewhere.

Q: We would love to include our dog in the portrait as she is part of the family.   Is that ok?

A: Yes, pet photography is a specialty of ours.

Q: It’s time to get my 5 year old son’s benchmark portrait but he just cut his how hair!   It’s going to take forever to grow out.  Any suggestions?

A: Absolutely do it now!   While it may not seem so cute right now, I guarantee it is going to be one of your most repeated stories.   Embrace your son’s independence and capture this moment forever.

Q: I would like to have my family photographed outdoors.  Do you go outside the studio for your portrait work?

A: Yes, and if you don’t have a particular spot in mind we have several scenic areas that lend themselves to beautiful backgrounds – including our own farm.

Q. Do we need to arrive to the studio early to get ready?

A: No, your scheduled appointment accounts for preparation.   We pride ourselves in a very private session.  You will not find people waiting in the reception area making you feel rushed.  We want you to enjoy your experience as much as we do each one.
